Fernando Alonso managed to take his first podium in seven years in Qatar. The Spaniard will remain active in Formula 1 for a few more years and with next year’s new car it could just be that Alonso can fight for his third world title.
The two-time world champion has made unfortunate choices in the past. The general tendency is that Alonso should have won more titles. Of course there is also some luck involved. For the Spaniard, a third world title would mean a lot, he says in the podcast Beyond The Grid.
“Of course it doesn’t change my career or how I view the sport,” said Alonso. He continues: “I love the competition and of course I look forward to the moment when I can add a third world title. It won’t be up to me, I’ll do my best.” At the start of the season there were still doubts about the driver’s return, but he has cleared them throughout the season.
Age is not important
The 40-year-old driver thinks age is just a number: “I don’t think it matters whether you are 19 or 42 or 43. It’s a way of life, I want to leave that message for the future.” He also praises people who give their heart and soul for Formula 1. “You always have to go the extra mile and get the best out of yourself. I like to watch people dedicate their lives to sports. Not just how they race, but especially how they prepare for a race”, concludes the passionate Spaniard.
