It is still waiting for confirmation, but an extension of Carlos Sainz’s contract is certainly in the air. Team boss Mattio Binotto does not expect any difficulties in talking with the Spaniard and hopes for white smoke from Maranello soon.
Sainz’s first season in the Ferrari was one to get through. The Spaniard proved himself to be one of the most consistent drivers on the grid and in the final race of the season he even passed teammate Charles Leclerc in the overall standings to finish in a handsome fifth place. Sainz indicated that he is happy with the Italians and there are also positive sounds from the Ferrari team management. A contract extension seems to be a matter of time.

Binotto talks candidly about the upcoming talks with Sainz. “As we said at the last race, we’re going to talk about contract extension in the winter. We’ll sit down and see if we understand each other. I think he’s done a great job this season. the team is integrated and how he showed it on track.”
The Italian team boss continues his argument. “So it’s clear that we’re going to talk to make a deal. That’s an important part of our winter period. We haven’t talked yet and I don’t know how Carlos feels. First, I want to hear how he feels and looks back on the season. Then we look to the future,” he says about the course of events. “I think it’s going to be an easy conversation,” he adds with a laugh.
