Damon Hill: “Title chance is too tempting”

GP veteran Damon Hill is certain: The chance of the eighth world championship crown and a new title record is too tempting for Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton not to continue.

The rumors about a possible Formula 1 farewell to Lewis Hamilton do not stop. There has been radio silence between the Mercedes star and the public since the World Cup final in Abu Dhabi. The seven-time world champion was disillusioned, said Mercedes Motorsport Director Toto Wolff in a press conference.

The Viennese also stressed that he could not guarantee that the record winner will return to the starting line-up. Since then, Hamilton’s GP future has been discussed more intensively than ever, and many compatriots of the 37-year-old Briton do not want to believe in a surprise departure of the exceptional talent.

Damon Hill is also convinced that the Mercedes star will continue. In a special broadcast on “Sky Sports F1”, the 1996 world champion explains that returning after a low blow is not difficult at all. The 61-year-old knows what a bitter World Cup defeat feels like. In 1994 he lost to Michael Schumacher after a controversial collision in Australia.

“Maybe he’s just thinking, ‘I’ve done everything I can do,'” Hill says of Hamilton. “But I’m sure that the eighth world title is just too tempting. I’m convinced he wants to come back to get him and put it all behind him,” added the 22-time GP winner.
