Ecclestone is disappointed with Räikkönen’s departure: “The rest have become robots”

Former Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone is disappointed with the departure of Kimi Raikkönen, who in his eyes has always remained himself. The 91-year-old Briton therefore regrets that the other drivers have come to resemble robots too much.

Ecclestone had been in charge of Formula 1 for more than forty years. That changed in January 2017, when the American Liberty Media took over from the Briton. Despite his retirement, he still gets involved in discussions about the sport.

Exactly what you want

The former owner has seen Räikkönen make his debut in Formula 1. He likes the attitude of the Finn, he tells Sport1: “Kimi is a really great guy as a personality. As a driver, he is exactly what you want. ” He goes on to explain: “He just races. Other than that, he doesn’t really care about others. But he is always himself.” That down-to-earth attitude also made the Finn popular among the fans.

After more than twenty years in Formula 1, the Finn said goodbye at the end of 2021. We should not expect a new Räikkönen soon, according to Ecclestone: “There are no more Kimis today, that’s the problem.” According to the Brit, it could all be a little more rebellious: “They have all become a kind of robot. They all listen and do exactly what is asked of them instead of doing what they think is right.”
