Lewis Hamilton won the race in Qatar in a dominant fashion and at no point seemed to be under any real pressure. Ross Brawn is full of praise for the Briton. “He did nothing wrong during the race and deserved the win. The championship can really go either way now,” Brawn said in his column for Formula1.com.
The F1 boss also compliments Max Verstappen and thinks he could have made it very difficult for Hamilton if he had not had a grid penalty. “Max had a great race too. I think Lewis had it under control, but who knows?”
“With the start that Max made, if he had started from the front row instead of further back, we could have seen an even more exciting race. It’s the little things at this stage of the championship that can make the difference. “
Brawn thoroughly enjoys the battle between Red Bull and Mercedes. “The great thing about this championship is that we have a kind of ebb and flow. We had a period where people thought Red Bull would run away with it and then Mercedes comes back.”
Alonso is Driver of the Day
Fernando Alonso can also count on nice words from the F1 boss. The Spaniard managed to finish on the podium in Qatar. “Like Lewis, he got the hang of the track quickly and made the car work well. That Alpine looked good all weekend. Alonso is having a good time, he’s in his element.”
“I am a big fan of Alonso and it has always made me angry that someone of his talent has only won two championships. He is really my Driver of the Day. He is a man who still loves Formula 1 and you can see you,” Brawn noted.
