After qualifying, it was announced that Fernando Alonso had to report to race management because of a possible violation. However, the FIA has now acquitted him, allowing him to keep his fifth starting spot.
Alonso was accused of not responding adequately to double yellow flags during qualifying. The Spanish driver therefore had to report to the race management of the Turkish Grand Prix at 5:15 PM local time (4:15 PM Dutch time). Meanwhile, the stewards on duty have looked at all available data and images and the story of Alonso and his team has been heard. The FIA then concluded that Alonso simply responded adequately and therefore did not penalize him.
“It was clear that the driver complied with the requirement to significantly reduce speed after the double yellow flags were displayed and thus complied with the regulations,” the FIA said.
