F1 Watch Tip | Verstappen participates in a playful race and races down a mountain

Over the years, a lot of footage has been collected from drivers, teams, team bosses and the entire circus around it. In the F1 Kijktip we give a special image fragment to the readers every weekend to start the weekend well.

We dive into the recent past for the first F1 Viewing Tip of 2022. At least, 2015 sounds like not too long ago, but we are already talking about seven full years back in time. Also in that year, the Red Bull Soap Box Race, a kind of Ter Land, Ter zee and in the air event in which participants have to drive a descending course in a converted go-kart, was organised, as is often the case. As the name suggests, Red Bull is the party behind the ‘race’, which is held annually in Valkenburg, Limburg.

Red Bull deploys Dutch trump card

However, Red Bull had an ace up its sleeve for the 2015: Formula 1 rookie Max Verstappen. The reigning Formula 1 world champion made his debut in the premier class of motorsport that year and was eager to participate in the Red Bull Soap Box Race. And so he did.

In a go-kart converted in the colors of Toro Rosso, his then racing stable, Verstappen dived into the deep end and drove down the Cauberg. Where many fellow participants choked on the obstacles on the road, the then seventeen-year-old Dutchman did not. The victory did not result in that, it went to De Mergelvreters, but there were beautiful images.
