The Haas team is sending Formula 2 driver Robert Shwartzman out onto the slopes for rookie test day in Abu Dhabi next month. It is not the first Formula 1 test of the 22-year-old Russian from the Ferrari Driver Academy.
Robert Shwartzman was already there on the last rookie test day, which took place as part of the 2020 post-season test drives: The 21-year-old from St. Petersburg moved out for Ferrari after having previously been on the home track of the Scuderia in Fiorano Formula 1 kilometers of experience had been allowed to collect.
This year Haas is testing the current Formula 2 third on the desert circuit. Shwartzman is pleased: “First of all, I would like to thank the Haas team, Scuderia Ferrari and the Ferrari Driver Academy for this great opportunity.”
“This will be my first test with the Haas team and I’m really looking forward to meeting a new team and learning as much as possible from them. The chance to drive for another Formula 1 team is simply unbelievable and I can’t wait to work with everyone, ”adds the young hope.
For his part, Haas team boss Günther Steiner commented: “We are looking forward to testing with Robert in Abu Dhabi in December. He is obviously very much appreciated by Ferrari, as he has been part of their youth program since the end of 2017. His ability becomes clear when you look at his achievements in recent years, especially his rookie season in Formula 2 last year, in which he competed against our drivers Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin. “
