Jean Todt, the top boss of the FIA, sees a lot in Max Verstappen in Kimi Raikkonen. Todt also admires Lewis Hamilton’s career, he says in conversation with RaceFans.net.
“Max seems a bit Kimi,” Todt starts. The Dutchman seems as indifferent as the single world champion. The former Ferrari team boss therefore sees similar qualities between the drivers. “They are very level-headed, talented and they have limited interest and are fully focused on that,” said the FIA boss.
‘Lewis wants to be involved’
He also likes Hamilton. “I love Lewis,” Todt says. He continues: “That’s not to say I always agree with the way he’s doing. But he has his beliefs and expresses them, I love that and I respect that.” The Frenchman refers to Hamilton’s social messages. “Sometimes I feel like there’s another way, but the fact that he wants to be involved, he wants to be a player in things that he thinks matters, I respect that,” Todt said.
The title race is very exciting and that depends on the teams, but also the drivers. “We knew each team had one exceptional driver,” Todt said of Mercedes and Red Bull. In addition, the FIA president sees that the stability of the rules has ensured this battle: “It was not unexpected.” The Frenchman continues: “Obviously the more stability there is in the rules, the less revolution you have and the teams get closer together.”
