Pierre Gasly was disappointed to see that he finished outside the points in Russia. The Frenchman believes that he and his team would not have deserved that.
Pierre Gasly is having another very strong season, but the Frenchman would like to forget the Russian Grand Prix weekend very quickly. It started promisingly in free practice and Q1, but in Q2 he had to watch on the wet track as he failed to qualify among the top ten.
From 11th on the grid, he started his race well and was on his way to a top ten finish when the rain started. As a result, he fell back outside the points, to the frustration of the Frenchman. “I’m definitely disappointed,” he said afterwards. “We had a good first stint, during which we kept Bottas behind us for thirty laps.”
“After that first lap, we were behind Bottas when it started to rain. They made a pit stop, we didn’t. Bottas finishes P5 and we P13. We lost a lot there and we need to take a good look at what we could have done better.”, said Gasly, who had found points for AlphaTauri undeserved.
“The pace was good, but we didn’t take advantage of it. That’s why I don’t think we earned points this weekend, because we made too many mistakes. In a sport like this you have to do everything perfectly. We didn’t do that and so we don’t earn points. It’s that simple. We hope to hit back stronger in Turkey,” said Pierre, who also finished outside the points in Italy.
