Haas team boss Guenther Steiner regrets the result of the most recent Formula 1 race in Istanbul, which his protégés finished in the last places. Still, there is reason to be happy, he emphasizes.
The prerequisites for a strong race result in Istanbul were at least given for one of the two Haas rookies: Mick Schumacher was allowed to start from 14th on the grid and thus have justified hopes for a good result. But these dissolved early on, because the German had an unpleasant meeting with Fernando Alonso in the first round, which made him fall far behind.
In the end, Schumacher took 19th place, his team-mate Nikita Mazepin crossed the finish line last. Nevertheless, there was praise from team boss Günther Steiner afterwards: “Mick was very calm, his race engineer did a great job and was always calm. Everything was done well and that shows that you just have to keep working hard for the opportunities to arise. ”
“The whole team did a great job, everyone did what was necessary, the mechanics did a good job. And that makes me happy, because it proves that we are ready for 2022. If we then get a better car, the team will be ready to get back into the points, ”added the South Tyrolean.
There was special praise for Ayao Komatsu, who actually holds the position of technical director, but worked as a race engineer for Mazepin in Istanbul because Dominic Haines, who can usually be heard on the Russian radio, is not there for personal reasons was. To Komatsu, who will also step in in Austin, Steiner said: “The collaboration went as if they had worked together for the last three or five years.”
