Lewis Hamilton is currently not really concerned with his championship deficit compared to Max Verstappen. However, the Briton emphasizes that he has a few difficult races ahead of him, where he expects Red Bull to come out very strong.
Hamilton was allowed to kick off the race from second place and immediately managed to seize the lead in the race. However, he eventually had to acknowledge his superiority in Verstappen and Red Bull Racing, who took the victory. “I had a great start and the goal was to get in the lead and finally have a good start – I haven’t had such a good start in a long time so I was really happy with it. Then it went down “Just because I kept it calm and stayed ahead. So at that moment it felt really good to take the lead. It was a good first step, but they were just too fast.”
Grands Prix of Mexico and Brazil
Red Bull decided to go for a very aggressive strategy at the Circuit of the Americas, as a result of which Hamilton ultimately missed the main prize. However, he emphasizes that this was the maximum achievable result. “I don’t know what we could have done differently,” said Hamilton. “So I have to sit down with the team and talk about it. I think the team did a great job today and it was the best possible result. We are now going to two circuits where Red Bull is very strong, so it will definitely be difficult turn into.”
Hamilton is now 12 points behind Verstappen. He’s not worried about that for now, though. “I’m not thinking about it right now. I have to be happy with the work I’ve done and live in the moment. Unfortunately today we were not fast enough to win the race. But we’re just looking ahead and taking it race by race. We have no idea yet…they are two circuits where Red Bull is strong, so we’re going to try to minimize the damage and see if we can do better.”
