During qualifying at the Losail International Circuit, Lewis Hamilton was able to win convincing pole position. It was a difficult weekend for the Briton, but everything fell into place in the end, he explained shortly after qualifying.
“Yesterday was very difficult, I didn’t feel so well on Thursday and Friday,” said Hamilton, who suffered from abdominal pain during free practice. “We had problems in the training sessions and we had to work with the engineers into the night. Here we found a lot that we could improve.”
After the findings of Hamilton and his mechanics, the W12 car has been changed. “And that worked,” says Hamilton with a broad smile. “I am also very happy with the timing on the track. Everything felt very good today.”
Qatar GP start is important
The Losail International Circuit is a new location for Formula 1. Hamilton still finds it difficult to estimate the precise strategy. “In any case, I don’t think it will be easy to follow, but the tires don’t degrade very quickly either. The top three will start on the medium tyre, this will be a one-stop or a two-stop.”
Max Verstappen was able to trump Valtteri Bottas and cash in on P2 during qualifying. Hamilton is not afraid of an incident with the Dutchman, who starts next to him. “It’s nice and wide in the first corner, at least we’re going to give everything.”
