Hamilton’s first reaction to missing out on championship: ‘We fought so hard, I’m proud’

huhThe 2021 Formula 1 season is over and Max Verstappen is the new world champion. He defeated Lewis Hamilton on the very last round of the season. An iconic end to an iconic season. And where Verstappen and Red Bull are euphoric, Hamilton is disappointed. He loses the world championship and thus does not take his eighth title. However, his reaction after the race shows that he gave his all.

In the interview prior to the podium ceremony, the Briton begins with congratulations to the Dutchman. “First of all, big congratulations to Max and his team.” After this he indicates that he is nevertheless proud of his team. “This was a difficult year and we fought so hard. We gave everything and we never gave up and I am proud of that. I’m so proud to be part of this team and I feel grateful for the times I get to experience with them.” Mercedes does take the constructors’ title with Hamilton’s eighteen points.

In the closing stages of the season, Mercedes seemed to have the momentum with three wins in the last four races. And even here in Abu Dhabi things seemed to be going well for the Constructors’ Champion for a long time. The seven-time world champion lost it in the nick of time. “Of course I felt good in the car, especially in recent months,” he says.

Hamilton wishes the public a healthy Christmas

The defeated man also takes advantage of the situation to wish the world a safe Christmas. “It has also been a difficult year with the pandemic. I hope everyone stays healthy and that everyone can have a nice Christmas with their families.’ Jenson Button, the man who conducted the interviews, also asked about next year, but that seems a bit early. “We’ll see about next year,” he concludes.
