Honda will give everything for Verstappen and Red Bull: ‘Our power source must be ready’

Toyoharu Tanabe is satisfied with Max Verstappen’s performance in the final qualifying for Honda in Formula 1. The Japanese will leave the premier class after this season and hope that they can make Verstappen world champion in the final race. In any case, the Dutchman will start from pole position, while Sergio Perez may be able to offer support from P4.

“This was our last qualifying session, not just of the year but before Honda’s time in Formula 1,” Tanabe said in a Honda press release. “So it was great that Max took his tenth pole position of the season. A really fantastic result thanks to his own performance, but also to the good teamwork of Red Bull Racing, because Checo gave him a slipstream and that meant a lot.’

“Gasly has been racing hard all season”

In addition, Tanabe also discussed AlphaTauri’s performance. “It’s a shame that Yuki Tsunoda had to miss his first Q3 run, but he still finished eighth. Although Pierre Gasly rode mediums twice in Q2, he was unfortunately overtaken by traffic and had to settle for twelfth place. But he’s been racing really hard all season, so I expect him and Yuki to catch up during the race.”

As for the championship battle, Tanabe knows what to do. Max has to finish ahead of our rival. The two Red Bull drivers will start on soft tires and Mercedes on mediums, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out. Different strategies are possible, so our power source has to be ready for the decisions of the team. In our last race we will do our best to win the championships.’
