With only two points difference between the number one and two in the championship, the Formula 1 season of 2021 is unprecedentedly exciting. It’s so close together that the drivers have to pull out all the stops to get the upper hand. Christian Horner: “Lewis likes to play games with Max.”
In a conversation with ServusTV Christian Horner discusses the title battle between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. According to the Red Bull team boss, Hamilton is also trying to put psychological pressure on Verstappen. “He likes to play mental games. He uses everything at his disposal to put pressure on Max. And he never wants to be called the favourite.”
Horner does think that those mental games have no effect on Verstappen. “Max really doesn’t care. He is the most relaxed driver on the field and just wants to go full throttle.”
Those psychological attacks are part of Formula 1. Ayrton Senna, for example, went to the other drivers on the grid before every race and told them his plans. And Nico Rosberg always seems to have gone to the toilet just before Hamilton so that the latter could not have a pee soon.
Former Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger does think that Verstappen also plays mental games and also sees comparisons with Senna.
