Former Formula 1 driver Nico Hulkenberg is impressed by title candidates Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. The two do not seem to be nervous at all in the battle for the world championship, Hulkenberg tells ServusTV.
The last two rounds of the Formula 1 World Championship are on the program. The next race will be in Jeddah and the race after that will close the season in remodeled Abu Dhabi. The gap between the title contenders is currently eight points and Mercedes seems to have found their way up in the last few races. Hamilton is fighting for his eighth world title, Verstappen for his very first.
‘Sensational performance Hamilton’
The weekend in Qatar was dominated by the seven-time world champion. “Probably Lewis was extra motivated by the weekend in Brazil,” Hulkenberg started. The reigning world champion was disqualified in São Paulo after qualifying and was penalized five places during Sunday’s race due to an engine change. “It was a sensational performance from Lewis. He drove a perfect qualifying lap in Doha, which you could see from the onboard images,” said Hulkenberg about the weekend in Qatar.
Over the radio, the gentlemen don’t seem susceptible to the title fever: “These guys don’t succumb to the pressure.” The German sees that the title rivals are from another planet. “Lewis is not nervous, because he is fighting for his eighth world title. Max is extremely relaxed and that’s bizarre when you realize that this is only his first fight for the world championship,” concludes Hulkenberg.
