Is the winter break a period of rest? Not at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The workers there are currently working hard to prepare the circuit for the test days and the next five seasons. This is how it currently stands on the track.

Barcelona can stay on the calendar for a few more years. Last month it was announced that the circuit can host the Spanish Grand Prix at least until 2026. The circuit dates back to 1991 and so it was time to make the necessary changes. The photos below by the Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega show what the work consists of.

New paddock

In any case, the paddock will be completely overhauled. It seems that a large gutter is currently being dug. In addition, there will also be a new grandstand on the circuit, for which the first ribbons have already been put in the ground. The new paddock should be ready by the end of February when the first tests of the season begin. The Spanish Grand Prix will only be held on the weekend of 20 to 22 May.

Different layout?

An adjustment of the last chicane does not seem to be included in the current work. That is something drivers have been calling for for some time and race director Michael Masi has also said he would work on. For the time being, however, it seems that the chicane will remain.
