Former Formula 1 driver Jan Lammers thinks Max Verstappen will not be fooled by the recent developments at Mercedes. The Dutchman always gets the most out of himself, says Lammers in the Formula 1 podcast of the NOS.
The current leader of the standings saw the lead over rival Lewis Hamilton shrink to eight points in the last races. Despite Verstappen getting the most out of the car, he sees that Mercedes has become the parent. Nevertheless, the Dutchman makes a resigned impression when it comes to the competition from the Germans.
Against the indifferent
“Max is not one to drive on the reaction of his competitors. He is someone who is very concerned with his own actions,” Lammers begins. Ultimately, Verstappen only has influence on his own team: “It is almost indifferent to everything and everyone around him. He is working on his own story.” It will therefore not be the race mentality of the Red Bull driver: “He always leaves the car satisfied with his input.”
Not in anymore
In the end, Verstappen was able to take second place and one point for the fastest lap. “He knew there was no more in it. You can of course see from Perez what the difference is with that car and what he can do with it,” explains Lammers. The Dutchman is therefore known for getting the most out of the package: “It’s not really frustrating for him, it is what it is and he gets the most out of it.”
