Lance Stroll made a mistake in the closing stages of the Russian GP. He missed a corner and knocked Pierre Gasly around.
After the race, Lance Stroll had to report to the stewards. The reason for this was that in turn 8 he hit Pierre Gasly on the rear wheel. The Frenchman lost control of his car after a spin.
The stewards held Stroll responsible for the incident and awarded him a 10-second penalty and two penalty points. Race officials acknowledged that the wet track conditions were tricky but thought Stroll was taking too much risk. The penalty has no immediate consequences for Stroll, who crossed the line in eleventh place. He loses a position to teammate Sebastian Vettel.
In total, the Canadian now collected eight penalty points, which means he has to pay attention. Twelve accumulated penalty points in a twelve-month period automatically result in a one-race suspension.
