The Englishman Lewis Hamilton missed his 2021 season goal of clinching the eighth drivers’ world title and thus breaking Michael Schumacher’s record. In 2022 he will make a new attempt.

In recent years, Lewis Hamilton has broken one Michael Schumacher record after the other: Most pole positions (Hamilton is now at 103), most GP victories (also 103), most podiums (182), most laps in the lead (5396). But there are also all-time highs that Lewis Hamilton has so far struggled with. We present some of them.

World title
Michael Schumacher is the record champion: seven world titles. For a long time the prevailing opinion was that this record could not be broken. Lewis Hamilton came very close to the eighth title in Abu Dhabi in 2021, but in the end Max Verstappen was ahead. The Englishman will try again in 2022.

World title in series
When Michael Schumacher came to Ferrari in 1996, the Tifosi were hoping for the first driver’s world title since Jody Scheckter 1979. They then had to show a lot of patience – it was not until their fifth year in red that they finally won the world championship. But not even in the wildest dreams would Ferrari fans have expected that Michael Schumacher would win five world titles in a row between 2000 and 2004. Lewis Hamilton could have equalized that from 2014 to 2018, but Nico Rosberg put the Englishman in a big row in 2016. In 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 Lewis won more titles, then Verstappen ended the prospect of five titles in a row.

Wins of the season
When Michael Schumacher won thirteen races of the season in 2002 and 2004, everyone said – a record for the ages. And then Sebastian Vettel managed the same thing in 2013! Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton achieved eleven wins of the season in 2014, 2018, 2019 and 2020.

Wins in consecutive years
Schumacher had at least one win in 15 consecutive GP seasons. Hamilton did the same as the German in 2021. Schumi’s record can therefore be exceeded in 2022.

Victories in the same World Championship run
Michael Schumacher and France, that was a very special relationship. Schumi was able to win the French GP eight times. Lewis Hamilton caught up with his victories in Hungary and Great Britain in 2021 and can become the first nine-time winner of a particular World Cup in 2022.

Best racing laps
Lewis is still 18 best laps behind Michael Schumacher, it is 77:59 for Schumacher.

Hat tricks
Schumacher managed 22 Formula 1 hat tricks, consisting of pole position, victory and the best race lap. Hamilton is currently at 19.

Podiums in a row
From Indianapolis 2001 to Suzuka 2002 Michael Schumacher hopped onto the podium 19 times in a row – Lewis Hamilton proved in the turbo-hybrid era of Formula 1 that this record can be broken. From Monza 2014 to Silverstone 2015 he was on the podium 16 times in a row.

Grands Prix in loyalty
Michael Schumacher has contested a total of 180 world championship races for Ferrari from Melbourne 1996 to Interlagos 2006, Hamilton has 178 races with Mercedes – the record will fall in the third race of the season in 2022.
