Lewis Hamilton cannot explain why the Mercedes car suddenly seems a lot stronger than the Red Bull cars. According to the title candidate, the German racing stable has not made any improvements.
On the long straight, Mercedes suddenly seems to be a lot faster. In Red Bull’s camp they suspect a change to the engine at the rival racing stable, but Lewis Hamilton denies that anything has changed in the W12 car. “We haven’t really done anything with the car lately,” he explains to RacingNews365.
“So I don’t really know why we seem to be a bit faster all of a sudden,” he marvels. “Maybe we’ve just had two or three tracks that suited our car a bit more, but yeah, I have to admit the car feels really good lately.” Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were significantly faster than Red Bull in Turkey. Bottas won the race at a good distance from Max Verstappen, Hamilton finished fifth after a catch-up race at Istanbul Park.
According to Verstappen’s title rival, it feels good to have a strong car at his disposal in the final races of the season. “This weekend was very good, and from here we can focus on the next races. If we perform as well there as here (in Turkey, ed.), then it will be a few good weekends for the team.”
The circuit in Austin, where the next Grand Prix will be held, again seems to be in favor of Hamilton and Mercedes. The reigning World Champion has always been strong at the Circuit of the Americas and expects to have a significant shot at victory here. The American GP will be held on Sunday, October 24.
