With a third place for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez who managed to set a seventh time, it does not seem to be running smoothly at Red Bull Racing. Helmut Marko, advisor to the team, still looks back on qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix with a fairly good feeling.
At Sky Sports, the Austrian gives his opinion about the qualification. “We look back on qualifying with satisfaction,” says Marko. The advisor thinks there are many opportunities for Verstappen in the race, in which, according to him, a lot can still happen. In addition, it does not bother Marko that Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas were faster than his drivers.
Speaking of that speed, in the race the differences would be much less: “We are also positive for the race that we can again drive with the speed of Mercedes,” says Marko. With a few drops on the track, it really comes down to the steering skills of the drivers, Marko feels something for that: “Maybe we should assume that. That is exciting. But there are a few strong people: Pierre Gasly, Charles Leclerc and Fernando Alonso,” concludes the Austrian.
The free practice sessions could have been a lot better from a Red Bull perspective. Marko was therefore not satisfied on Friday: “The pace of Mercedes was already quite decent here. You have to wait and see what the weather is like. So far nothing of the forecast is correct”, he said at the time.
