Viaplay will take over the rights from Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands this season for broadcasting Formula 1. Just like Ziggo, Viaplay also has a collaboration with Max Verstappen. The new rights holder promises to give ‘a unique glimpse into the life of Verstappen’. As part of the ambassadorship, exclusive content will be created around Verstappen.

Viaplay also roped in former Formula 1 driver and father Jos Verstappen for the international analyst team, which already consisted of David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Tom Kristensen. “With 106 Grand Prix starts to his name and as a trusted person of son Max, Verstappen senior will give the Formula 1 enthusiast extra insights during the season,” the statement said.

Max Verstappen himself said: “I am really looking forward to this collaboration with Viaplay, especially because our ambitions to be the best in our field match. It will be great to work with Viaplay’s professional team in the paddock including David Coulthard, Mika Hakkinen and Tom Kristensen. I am convinced that their experience as former top drivers will be of great added value. Viaplay may be new to Dutch viewers, but the streaming service has already earned its spurs abroad. It’s fantastic that we can treat a large group of fans to unique content that we will create together.”

“Formula 1 is an important spearhead for Viaplay and the collaboration with Max Verstappen is proof of this,” said Peter Nørrelund of the NENT Group, Viaplay’s parent company. “Viaplay brings this fantastic sport in a way that has never been seen before. From the most beautiful studios and live from the paddock, we cover the sport with unique access to drivers and analysis from big stars such as Jos Verstappen, Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard. The addition of exclusive content from Max takes viewers into the fastest show on Earth like never before.”

Viaplay will be launched in the Netherlands on March 1, 2022. The Dutch analyst team consists of Christijan Albers, Giedo van der Garde and Tom Coronel.
