This Saturday, the qualifying training of Formula 1 for the Belgian Grand Prix took place, under rain. Max Verstappen, of RBR, took pole, followed by George Russell, of Williams, and Lewis Hamilton, of Mercedes. The race was stopped for about 40 minutes after a strong crash by Lando Norris.
In the first heat, most riders entered with extreme rain tyres, while only Williams were intermediate. Lando Norris finished in the lead, while Giovinazzi, Tsunoda, Schumacher, Mazepin and Raikkonen were eliminated.
In heat number two, with everyone on intermediate tyres, Norris followed in the lead, with Lewis Hamilton in second place. Leclerc, Latifi, Sainz, Alonso and Stroll were eliminated.
Right at the start of the third heat, Lando Norris hit the corner of Eau Rouge hard. The pilot answered the team by radio and said he was fine. Shortly before, the drivers on the track asked for a red flag (which was decreed after the accident) for excess water on the track.
After about 40 minutes of stoppage, the dispute was resumed, with Mercedes and RBR on intermediate tires. With many twists at the end, Verstappen was the only one to complete the lap in less than two minutes. Highlight for George Russell, who achieved the second best time aboard a Williams. Lewis Hamilton closed the top three positions.
