Nikita Mazepin reveals that he and Mick Schumacher did not get along well at the start of their debut Formula 1 season. There was a lot of friction between the two and it led to multiple incidents. There is no longer any such friction and they now get on well with each other.
“I don’t think there was any exaggeration,” Mazepin told the Russian branch of Motorsport.com when asked about the tension between him and Schumacher. “We went through a really difficult period when we got to know each other.” The Russian driver says he always wants to finish in front. ‘That’s always been my goal. I will never give up until I leave this paddock.”
Mazepin: ‘I’m here to win races’
“My relationship with Mick is now completely neutral with no ups and downs. We are stable with each other. In our sport, that’s the only way to get the best results,” says the 22-year-old Haas driver. Mazepin makes it clear that he and Schumacher are not friends. They see each other as colleagues working towards a common goal. “I’m here to win races. It is clear that this will not happen in the foreseeable future.”
Mazepin in Formula 1 to win trophies
The man from Moscow knows that he can only win races with a good car and a good teammate. “You need the best car and you have to have the right setup. It requires work from two people. I’m sure Mick thinks the same, because he has the same goals and ambitions as I do.” Mazepin says he and his teammate will fight to be the best driver at Haas. They will both do everything they can to get the advantage.
“Of course you have to restrain yourself a bit when you fight with your teammate. If something happens to both cars, it’s obviously not good for the team.’ Still, Mazepin is clear who he is racing for in Formula 1. “I’m here for myself and the goal is to take home as many Formula 1 trophies as possible.
