Mercedes has officially said goodbye to Valtteri Bottas. The Finn is leaving for Alfa Romeo, after five years of loyal service at Mercedes. The German racing stable has thanked the departing Fin for his time with a farewell video.
Bottas’ seat will be taken by George Russell. The young Briton comes over from Williams, where he has been allowed to drive for the past three seasons. Russell has been knocking on Mercedes’ door for a while and next year he can compete with Lewis Hamilton.
At Alfa Romeo, Bottas will replace Kimi Räikkönen, who has hung up his helmet at the end of the season. Bottas can be called a veteran at the age of 32. In his time at Mercedes he has been able to take ten victories and in total Bottas now has twenty pole positions to his name.
Guanyu Zhou will become the Finn’s teammate in the Swiss team. The Chinese finished third in the Formula 2 standings. Bottas is expected to lead the team with all his experience.
