A new experience awaits the young Ferrari and Haas GP driver Mick Schumacher: The Instanbul Park outside the megacity is one of those tracks that Mick does not yet know.
The 16th round of the World Championship of the Formula 1 season in 2021 will be held on the Istanbul Park race track outside the Turkish metropolis. For Mick Schumacher this means: “Video studies, because I have not yet driven the route myself, but my Haas team was able to collect a lot of data in 2020.”
The Formula 2 champion of 2020 says about his goal for the coming weekend: “Make the most of the situation and then hope that this is enough to get closer to our opponents and maybe fight with them.”
After a whole series of routes that Schumacher knows well, it is now heading into the unknown, with many overseas GPs in America and the Middle East. Mick says: “It was helpful to know the European routes, but recently it was also unusually cold – in Belgium or in Russia. I’m looking forward to the races overseas. We have a ranch in Texas, so I’ll be staying in a motorhome for the Austin weekend, just like I’ve done a lot of races in Europe. In Mexico and Brazil people will sleep in the hotel again. ”
Ferrari youngster Mick (22) appreciates the cosiness of the motor home, for him it is a little bit of home. “I’ve had the same motorhome in Europe since 2013. I’ve already traveled to go-kart races with it, I just feel good in it. It even has a small room that I can work out in. It gives me a good feeling to be able to sleep in my own bed and the motorhome is my own bed for me. ”
Mick Schumacher continues to believe firmly in his goals: It will be possible to advance into the second segment in qualifying, i.e. among the top 15 (made it for the first time in France), and if things get a little crazy, Haas may even score championship points.
Mick Schumacher’s bests to date in his first Formula 1 season: 14th place in Russia (thanks to the penalty transfer of some opponents), 12th place in Hungary.
