George Russell admits that he and Williams have gotten a little rough. The Briton is disappointed and frustrated with the lousy form of past races.
The Williams team struck in the middle of the competition with some good results. After a dramatic 2020, the team is in a good eighth place with 23 points, but in recent weeks it has all become a lot less for the team of Russell and Nicholas Latifi. It also turned out to be a disappointing weekend in Qatar.
Flat tire in Qatar
In conversation with Motorsport.com, the Briton first looks back on the first weekend in Qatar, in which he experienced a flat tire and dramatic Grand Prix with Latifi. “I enjoyed how hard you could push, but in the end it didn’t work out. The flat tire was quite surprising. We could probably have driven back to Britain on the rear tires. In terms of wear, it was really only the front left.”
Speed away on Saturday
“I think everyone in the team is a bit frustrated at the moment. I think we need to understand what has changed. We do have some indications,” said Russell of the lousy form. He was previously called “Mr. Saturday’, but there is little to be seen of it. “Normally we had difficult Sundays, but we made up for that a bit with great Saturdays. Also, given the speed of our car, it is easier to hold onto a spot than to attack. But for a reason, the speed is not there either. on Saturday,” he sighs. “We now have to secure P8.”
