Lando Norris is aware of his role as a famous person. He knows where he stands, and often also at difficult moments the attention of fans is needed. The Brit finds it difficult to say no.
Norris was voted the second most popular driver on the grid after a survey of more than 167,000 Formula 1 fans. The Briton gained that spot behind Max Verstappen and ahead of Lewis Hamilton. With that fame there is a lot to consider, including attention from fans at times when he is quietly eating or doing something with friends.
Don’t say no
It is then difficult if you find it difficult to say no, the McLaren driver admits. “Sometimes I’m having a nice dinner with friends, but I really don’t care if people come and ask for a quick photo. I just feel that I can’t say no. That is sometimes a problem. Maybe I have to go and say no more often,” laughs Norris. “But I just can’t,” he told ESPN.
Despite his unprecedented popularity, Norris knows his place and knows that he still has a lot to prove to really deserve that spot. “I’m still not Lewis Hamilton. I’m not yet a seven-time world champion and I’m not known for many other things as he is. He’s also popular outside of Formula 1. I wouldn’t say I’m on the same level. But there are a lot of things that fans like me for compared to other drivers.”
