The tires were a big problem for the drivers in Qatar on Sunday afternoon. Valtteri Bottas, George Russell, Nicholas Latifi and Lando Norris ran into a flat tire and the latter driver therefore swerves towards Pirelli.
Sunday afternoon it went wrong several times during the Grand Prix of Qatar. Four drivers ran into sudden punctures without any warnings and that caused the necessary dangerous situations. Norris, one of the unlucky ones, was not happy with the Pirelli tyres. “I don’t think you expect the tire to suddenly blow up, especially not on the hard tyre,” the Briton grumbles.
Stint wasn’t long
The McLaren driver has little understanding of the situation with the tire, as he hadn’t even been driving around on that set for very long. “We weren’t that far into the stint at all. I think it’s like twenty laps or something. The tire has to last longer than twenty laps. On every track you look at the tire wear, but you don’t expect the tire to suddenly go away. ”
Dangerous for drivers
Norris then points out the danger that lurks in such situations. “It was quite dangerous for a lot of people today. This shouldn’t happen. If there was a wall it would have been a lot more dangerous. They just have to make the tires better. It’s dangerous for us as drivers. We put one every time a lot at stake. But if you can’t even drive a Formula 1 car properly, what else can we do?” he wonders.
