The Finnish driver Valtteri Bottas will drive for Alfa Romeo starting next season of the Formula 1. Mercedes had already made it clear that it would not renew the contract of the current 3rd place in the overall classification.
With Valtteri Bottas moving to Alfa Romeo, the trend is for George Russell, currently at Williams, to join the next Mercedes season to be “driver number two”.
Currently, Alfa Romeo is second to last in the world of constructors. Valtteri Bottas arrives to replace Kimi Raikkonen, who will retire at the end of the year. Antonio Giovinazzi is the other Romeo driver.
“A new chapter in my career is opening. I’m excited to join Alfa Romeo and looking forward to this new challenge. I’m so grateful for the trust they’ve placed in me and I can’t wait to make it count,” said Bottas to the official Formula 1 website.
For Mercedes, Bottas achieved 9 victories, 17 poles and runners-up in 2019 and 2020. However, the Finn has one of his worst seasons in 2021, being constant target of criticism. Valtteri also worked at Williams, where he stood out in 2014 and 2015.
