Pierre Gasly is very pleased with the progress of the AlphaTauri team has made during the race weekend. The French driver will do his utmost to keep Lewis Hamilton behind him and hopes that he will please Max Verstappen too.
The race weekend in Turkey started very difficult for Gasly and his team. The 25-year-old finished the first and second free practice sessions in eighth and ninth place and was therefore not satisfied after Friday. He decided to make some changes and with great success. He set the fastest time in the third free practice session and qualified fifth for the Turkish Grand Prix. “I have to say that I am very happy,” Gasly told Ziggo Sport. “We didn’t have a very good Friday yesterday. I had a lot of understeer and I was not happy with the balance. I asked for quite a few changes and the team gave me everything I asked for. I had a very competitive day today. car.”
Those changes ultimately paid off, as the AlphaTauri driver was in good shape all Saturday. “To fight with Ferrari, with a few hundredths difference, and also quite close to Max Verstappen to sit… That shows how much progress we’ve made, so I’m really happy with that and enjoyed it a lot. Thanks to Lewis’ penalty, we start from fourth, so I can’t wait to see what we can do tomorrow.”
Gasly helps Verstappen?
When asked what Gasly can do to help Verstappen, he can be simple. “During my race I always try to keep whoever is behind me for as long as possible, no matter who it is. I don’t think it is the first time that Lewis is behind me. Last race I had to (Valtteri, red.) Keep Bottas behind me for a long time and in Monaco it was Lewis. I’m going to do my best and if we have the speed. I really think Max can overtake Bottas at the start and take the lead from the first lap. Hopefully it will be difficult for Hamilton to get through the field. Anyway, we have to be fast and so we focus on that.”
