When discussing the new engines, to be introduced in 2026, Porsche already showed great interest in entering Formula 1 . Although no decisions have been made yet, the German car manufacturer says that everything is being done to enable a return to the premier class. The conditions for voting part satisfied the brand, according to Thomas Laudenbach on behalf of Porsche.
“Looking to the future, we see many different possibilities in the field of propulsion. For example, we are already working on electric cars and I think Formula 1 should put even more emphasis on that. I think the electric part of the engines should be a priority,” Laudenbach told Motorsport.com. Formula 1 is known as a forerunner in technical progress and that is why it is very attractive for major brands to put the brand on the map in this sport. ‘As a car manufacturer you want to show yourself, but then the technology has to be relevant.’
To make an entry of Porsche possible, a lot still has to be negotiated, but the first signals are positive for the manufacturer. “The FIA is now taking steps in the right direction. A lot of things that we think are important in Formula 1, now seem to be moving in the right direction.’ For example, to put more emphasis on the electrical component of the engine, Porsche hopes for more standardized components in the combustion engine and more design freedom for the electric engine. “For future road cars, this is the most relevant for the future, so we think it’s good to focus on that in development.”
“It’s no secret that we think about Formula 1”
Behind the scenes it was already clear that Porsche is very interested in entering Formula 1. Now the manufacturer makes no secret of the far-reaching interest, Laudenbach emphasizes. “It’s no secret that we think about Formula 1. There are so many people looking at it and compared to other racing classes in the marketing value huge.” An attractive option, if the negotiations continue to go well. However, there is no guarantee on an entrance. “No decisions have been made yet, but we won’t be waiting long because the time to start is approaching.”
