During the training sessions in Qatar, Max Verstappen’s rear wing did not seem to be going well. When the DRS wing closed, the upper element of the rear wing fluttered. The Red Bull mechanics were working on the Verstappen part several times in the pit box.
According to Helmut Marko, the issue has been resolved prior to qualifying. The old wing of Verstappen is no longer used and Red Bull has switched to a new one. “It is interesting that only Max’s wing had that problem, because Sergio (Perez, ed.) did not have the problem and drove the same wing type,” said Marko.
“We are also switching to more downforce, which also means that this wing (with the problem, ed.) is no longer in use and that this should solve the problem.” According to Marko, the Losail International Circuit is a good circuit to drive with a little more downforce. “The long straight isn’t that long here anyway.”
During qualifying it became clear that the problem with the DRS did not occur on the other rear wing that Verstappen was driving.
