The battle for the world title between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is extremely exciting and practically everyone in the racing world has a favorite. It is also clear to Daniel Ricciardo: he hopes for a Dutch overall victory.
Ricciardo and Verstappen shared the same racing stable in Formula 1 for three years, namely with the Red Bull Racing team. As is known, the two have maintained a warm relationship since then and it is therefore not necessarily a surprising choice of the Honey Badger that he awards the Dutchman the world title. However, the McLaren driver does come up with good arguments and has the feeling that a Verstappen championship would be a better ‘feel-good story’.
Winner deserves it
“Actually, I’m like ‘may the best man win’. The rivalry that both gentlemen have this year is pretty cool as a fan. I think they’ve both given everything so far. From that point of view, I think the current “The state of affairs with everything so close together is fair. As long as no one has an accident, I think that the person who becomes champion ultimately deserves it,” it sounds from Ricciardo.
Where Hamilton can write his record-breaking eighth world title, it is Verstappen who is fighting for his first world championship. Ricciardo knows which story he prefers. “I think people like to see a new face, so Max is the crowd favorite because he can get his first title. That’s new and exciting for everyone. It feels more than a feel-good story.” he concludes.
