Williams head of vehicle performance Dave Robson thinks George Russell will be no less than Lewis Hamilton next season. The young Briton had to wait a long time for his chance at Mercedes and is determined to measure himself against the seven-time world champion.
Robson joined the McLaren team in 2010 as a race engineer for Jenson Button. He knows how the single world champion was in the car and understands his driving style. Hamilton was also employed by McLaren at the time and Robson also watched.
“Sit in between”
Speaking to Motorsport.com, Robson said: “I think Jenson and Lewis were quite different and George is different in driving style. He’s a bit in between.” It’s Russell’s first season with the top team, so we shouldn’t expect much from him. In addition, the German racing stable will do everything it can to allow Hamilton to win his eighth world title.
The 23-year-old Russell is, according to Robson, of exceptional class: But when it comes to his style and attitude, he is absolutely no less than these two [Hamilton en Button]The talent to drive the car is not enough these days, so Russell can manage things well outside the car: “He also has everything to get the best out of the team and to make the right decisions under pressure at crucial moments .”
