Sergio Perez is looking forward to the Russian Grand Prix this weekend, but realizes that it will not be an easy task to beat Mercedes. Max Verstappen ‘s teammate sees the Zilverpijlen as a favorite, but will do everything he can to take points home with his Dutch teammate.
First, in a press release from his team, Perez looks back on the race weekend in Italy, where he finished fourth. “We knew Monza wouldn’t be our track, but we still managed to get to the front. It’s a shame that I fell off the podium due to a penalty, but there are plenty of positives to build on. We are going into a very different race weekend so we can make a fresh start to the Grand Prix in Russia.”
A fierce battle will erupt in Sochi, in which teamwork is especially required at Red Bull. “It will be very important to help each other as teammates on the track, especially as we approach the end of the season and every point counts towards the championship. So we have to take advantage of all the possibilities.”
Mercedes the big favorite
“Mercedes has won every race in Sochi since 2014 and so they are the favourites,” said the realistic Perez. “It will be very difficult to beat them, but we will do our best. In any case, I think it’s a really cool track to drive on, because it’s so technical and fluid. So I’m looking forward to it.”
