Toyaharu Tanabe is aware that there is work to be done towards the latter part of the season. He speaks of a difficult week in Qatar and focuses on the final of this exciting year.
The Honda Racing F1 director looks back on the first-ever race in Qatar. “It was an eventful race for us, with both Red Bull drivers having to make a lot of overtaking actions. Max Verstappen, saddled with an unfortunate grid penalty, quickly moved up the field from seventh place to second place, while Checo Perez also put in a strong performance moving from 11th place to P4,” he told Honda’s website.
Tough day AlphaTauri
Tanabe saw that it went a lot less with the second team of Red Bull than with the big brother. “It was not easy at AlphaTauri. Despite good starting places, both Pierre Gasly and Yuki Tsunoda were unable to find a race space, so they finished outside the points”, it sounds disappointed. “It was especially disappointing because they’ve been so fast all weekend. Overall, it wasn’t an easy weekend for us.”
There’s work to be done
The Japanese is aware that there is still a little bit to do towards the end of the season, if they want to eventually win both championships. “In the end, the result was the most important thing. Max is still leading the championship and Red Bull has closed the gap to Mercedes. Now we have a week without a race, so we will work hard to improve our performance towards the end of the season.” he decides.
