Team boss Szafnauer leaves Aston Martin with immediate effect

Otmar Szafnauer has retired from the Aston Martin team with immediate effect. A replacement for the England team boss has not yet been announced.

Szafnauer seems to be on his way to Alpine’s team. Several media wrote a month ago that the Romanian American wanted to make the switch. With a departure from Aston Martin, the first step seems to have been taken.

New challenge

The Aston Martin team said in a press release: “We would like to thank him for all his services over the past twelve years and we wish him the best for the future, where he will undoubtedly take on new challenges.” Szafnauer first joined the team in 2009, which was then still campaigning under the name Force India. From 2018 he has held the role of team principal.

Focus on new season

Aston Martin has not yet announced a replacement for the team boss: “Fortunately we have a strong group and we are taking the time to explore the options before announcing a new structure.” The team is therefore busy preparing the 2022 car.
