The title fight between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton is a hot affair. More and more, however, says Timo Glock, Verstappen keeps a cool head.
Timo Glock was surprised. He had expected something different when Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton collided in Monza and Verstappen’s Red Bull racer was more or less jacked up on the Mercedes.
But what was noticeable: Verstappen remained calm afterwards. “He didn’t get involved in anything after Monza, he’s doing his thing. It would have exploded before. I expected him to rip open his visor and knock him off,” joked Glock:” He’s a lot more mellow.”
“Because he knows that this is only harming himself. He has worked on himself so that he understands that he first has to take a deep breath and put his head under cold water, ”continues Glock, who accompanies Formula 1 as a Sky expert.
But Glock is not only impressed by the mental, the athletic too. “What Verstappen delivered in Sochi almost went under – he made the call at the right time and made no mistakes. Such races can decide the fight for the title. That shows the maturity that he’s ready,” says Glock.
Verstappen has everything under control and knows what to do, says DTM driver Glock, who sees both of them at eye level, but still has a personal favorite: “Max is ready, even if the pressure is increasing immensely now. But I would allow Formula 1 to win the title. And for Michael (Schumacher, editor’s note) I would like it too.”
