Yuki Tsunoda’s assignment was clear: try to keep Lewis Hamilton behind as long as possible at the start of the Turkish GP. The Japanese, who has not been faultless this season, drove the wheels of his car and made his AlphaTauri wider than wide to keep Hamilton behind.
RacingNews365 asked the little Japanese how he felt about fighting Hamilton: “I honestly don’t care about that.”
“I wanted Max to win. It’s Honda’s last year, also with Red Bull. I tried to keep Lewis behind as long as possible and I don’t know exactly how many laps this succeeded. I wanted to try for longer, but that didn’t work.”
Tsunoda put a lot of strain on his tires, causing him to mess up later in the race. “I was asking too much from my tires in a fight with Lewis. After that it was very difficult to keep the pace up. I had a little spin when I tried to pick up the pace.”
“I couldn’t see anything in the mirrors, but I thought there was a car directly behind me and I had to push. That made me spin. That spin ruined my race which was a shame because it was possible to score points.”
