Valtteri Bottas hopes that Mercedes will win both championships again this season and is prepared to work extremely hard for it. Bottas does emphasize that his individual results are also important and that that is also a priority.
Bottas is currently in his fifth and final season with the Mercedes team. He must leave the German stable at the end of this season, to make way for the arrival of George Russell . To date, however, the Formula 1 season of the 32-year-old driver has been extremely difficult. The Finn has not yet won a single victory this year and is currently in third place in the standings with 151 points. However, he has to be careful as he has Lando Norris on his heels with 139 points.
Although Bottas has to leave the top team at the end of this season, his Formula 1 career is not over for the time being. The Finn will make the switch to Alfa Romeo at the end of this year , where he will replace compatriot Kimi Raikkonen. Bottas always received a one-year contract from Mercedes, which meant that he had to come to the table every year for negotiations. In their own words, these long periods of uncertainty caused a lot of extra stress. Fortunately, he doesn’t have to worry about that at Alfa Romeo, because he has made a deal for several seasons.
Individual results vs the collective
Bottas has been the perfect teammate for Lewis Hamilton in recent years and has had to hand over a win to his British counterpart on more than one occasion. Although he hopes Hamilton will take the title, he emphasizes that he will also think about himself. “I want to win another race and I want to take home the fifth Constructors’ title with the team. If I can’t win the World Championship, I want Lewis to win it. But that doesn’t mean I’m still very motivated, I also wants to achieve individual results,” said Bottas in conversation with the Italian Autosprint . So it remains to be seen whether Bottas will let his teammate in front one more time.
