A five-place grid penalty pushed Max Verstappen back to seventh before the race. The Dutchman flew out of the starting blocks and immediately made up three places, before quickly progressing to second position. Partly due to a late, extra, pit stop, Verstappen won the bonus point for the fastest lap.
“Of course our starting position was a bit difficult, but we got off to a good start. Then I quickly managed to advance back to second place. To also take the point for the fastest lap was very important.”
“I know it’s going to be difficult until the end, but that’s good. That keeps it exciting.”
Verstappen: “It will be a close fight”
Verstappen did enjoy racing on the Losail International Circuit for the F1 new.
“It’s nice to drive here, on this fast track. In terms of tire wear, it was also good.”
With two races to go, Verstappen’s lead is only eight points. Verstappen expects the battle to continue until the last race, the Abu Dhabi GP: “I feel good, it will remain a close fight until the end.”
