Max Verstappen has his biggest chance ever to become Formula 1 world champion in 2021. He is leading the championship with two races to go. Lewis Hamilton, meanwhile, is fighting for his eighth world title. The Mercedes driver can write history with this and break the record of Michael Schumacher. Verstappen says he does not have this ambition.
In conversation with the BBC says the Limburger that one world title is enough for him. “Because that’s it, then it’s done. After that it doesn’t matter how many you win,” said Verstappen. “Because you already have one to your name. Of course you still try to win more, but the goal has already been achieved.”
Verstappen doesn’t just stop
However, if Verstappen has won a world title, it does not mean that he is putting an end to his Formula 1 career. He does express an interest in goals outside the premier class of motorsport. “After winning the title there is of course less pressure on you, but I still have a lot of fun racing. Maybe after that I will slowly start looking at other things outside Formula 1.”
With two races to go, Verstappen is eight World Cup points ahead of Hamilton in the 2021 championship. The race looks set to continue until the very last test in Abu Dhabi. In that case, we will know who will be crowned the 2021 F1 World Champion at the closing race of the season on December 12.
