After the Abu Dhabi GP, Toto Wolff did not agree at all with the outcome of the race. Max Verstappen became world champion, much to Mercedes’ chagrin. Nevertheless, Lewis Hamilton’s team boss congratulated the competitor with a text message. “He congratulated me on my season and told me I deserved to win, so that was very nice of him of course,” Verstappen said after the race.
In conversation with picture Wolff is asked what exactly the Dutchman sent back. “Thank you very much. It was a tough fight, I’m looking forward to next year”, was the reply of the reigning world champion.
Wolff also congratulated Horner
Horner also received congratulations from Wolff, something the Mercedes team boss says is normal to do. Previously, Wolff and the Mercedes camp were called ‘unworthy losers’, but the Austrian is not (any longer) with that. “That happens when emotions arise,” he explains. “We don’t take that personally.”
Despite the pain of losing, the focus is completely on the next F1 season. “We have to pull out all the stops to win both championships next season,” said Wolff.
