Formula 1 will return to The Circuit of the Americas, COTA for short, for the first time in two years this weekend. The Williams men are really looking forward to returning to the Texas track.
The Grand Prix in Austin is one of the favorite circuits on the calendar for many drivers due to the fast and flowing nature of the circuit. George Russell is therefore looking forward to returning to Texas. “COTA is a great track and the whole weekend in Texas is a great experience in itself anyway. Austin is one of my favorite cities to visit on the calendar, so I can’t wait to get back to the States.
Lots of character
The upcoming Mercedes driver continues. “As a circuit, COTA has a lot of character. It’s fast and flowing but also bumpy, which makes for extra challenge. All in all, I’m really looking forward to it.” Nicholas Latifi, Russell’s teammate, agrees. “I’m really looking forward to hitting the track in Austin. It’s one of the races I was most looking forward to because I haven’t driven it yet.”
Glorified home race
Latifi even speaks of a glorified home race now that he is so close to Canada again. “It’s a circuit that has a bit of everything. The first sector is fast and fluid and seems like a lot of fun. The rest is at a lower speed and requires more technique, so I’m looking forward to taking on that challenge. It’s the first time I’ll be back on the other side of the ocean, so geographically this is the closest I’ll get to a home race in 2022,” he concludes with a laugh.
