An interview by Toto Wolff for the French Chanel+ after the Turkish Grand Prix has caused some discomfort. Wolff embarrassed the interviewer by referring to Valtteri Bottas’ victory.
The French interviewer fires questions at Wolff about Lewis Hamilton’s tire situation and initially receives a polite response. “There was a risk of a puncture, but he was also only twelve seconds ahead of Sergio Perez. He was losing eight or nine seconds per lap. So it would never have worked. We would be overtaken,” Wolff said of Hamilton.
The interviewer seems to stick with that. He thanks the team boss for his time and cuts off the interview: “We’ll see you again in Austin!” However, Wolff is not pleased and asks why he is not being asked about his other driver. “Aren’t we talking about Valtteri’s victory? It’s his tenth win in Formula 1,” he says in his best French.
Wolff’s unexpected question creates some hilarious awkwardness in the conversation. The interviewer doesn’t quite know what to say. “That’s true, we can congratulate him. His tenth victory with you. Positive things have happened, you have won the race,” responds the interviewer. “Yes, we won. But nobody talks about it,” Wolff finally responds.
