Max Verstappen has to fear a penalty after he allegedly ignored double yellow flags during qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix on Saturday. Toto Wolff was in talks with, among others, RacingNews365 asked about the images of the Dutchman.
According to the Austrian, it seems to be clear what was going on. “I’ve seen those images. Max drives past a flashing yellow light panel to his left, double yellow flags are waved and a car is stationary on the road. So then it’s three times clear.”
Last year, Red Bull reported Hamilton after ignoring a yellow flag in qualifying. Wolff hasn’t forgotten that. “They did it to us last year too, then they came after us too. I think it was about Albon then (it was about Bottas who was spun, ed.).”
Wolff trusts the stewards
However, Wolff will leave it entirely to the stewards this year, he emphasizes. He trusts them. “But it’s in the hands of the stewards. I don’t want to say much more about it, about what should happen. The stewards are looking at it and they have to judge.”
