After a few weeks of radio silence, Toto Wolff has made himself heard again on Twitter. The Austrian team boss of Mercedes wishes everyone a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a beautiful 2022.
The past few weeks must not have been the best for Mercedes. Although the team from Brackley won its eighth constructors’ title in a row, Lewis Hamilton lost the drivers’ world title to Max Verstappen on the very last lap of the very last race. That loss and especially the way in which it was done has left deep marks on Hamilton and the German-English stable.

Where the Englishman seems to have detached himself from the social platforms in recent weeks, team boss Wolff has now recovered enough to record and share a New Year’s message. In the 18-second video, Wolff reflects on the past season and he also looks ahead to the coming year.

“Hello everyone, it’s over. 2021 is over. There were some highs, there were some lows. There was glory and drama, but in the end that’s what it feels like to be alive,” Wolff looks back on the eventful year. He then wishes everyone all the best for 2022: “I wish you a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a happy 2022. Onwards and upwards!”
